No more legal barriers? Petitions against Adani green energy scrapped

The decision to withdraw occurred because Adani Green Energy notified the Board of Investment about terminating its wind energy projects which prompted the Attorney General to submit a filing.

The petitioners stopped all fundamental rights suits addressed to Adani Green Energy projects located in Sri Lanka's northeastern part. The Attorney General took such action because Adani Green Energy reached out to the Board of Investment to inform them about the cancellation of their wind energy initiatives.

Indian conglomerate disclosed their decision

In a recent announcement the Indian conglomerate disclosed their decision against continuing operations within the renewable wind energy project in Mannar and Pooneryn. The previous cabinet granted its approval to the project during May 2024 then fundamental rights petitions started at that time. Several petitions presented evidence about environmental dangers and unclear procedures involved with the project.

Operations following the Sri Lankan government

The Adani Group stopped its operations following the Sri Lankan government under President Anura Kumar Dissanayake who decided to assess the project and renegotiate electricity agreements.The earlier eight-cent price agreed by the government was considered excessive so the government aimed to reduce it to under six cents.

Administration demands

During September presidential campaign season the NPP government declared its plan to stop the project before national elections. The new cabinet made the decision to rework the purchase price during late December. The government spokesman Nalinda Jayathissa stated during his Tuesday appearance that the administration demands unit prices to be lowered.
